Loscan

Post by Loscan »

Name:
Loscan Rani

Race:
Elf (frog beastman)

Age:
104

Appearance:
152 cm (5’0’’)
Loscan takes care to keep his hair, a sickly pale blonde, in a way that shields his face. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with his admittedly haunted looking eyes or ears that he’s trying to hide, it’s just a comfort thing for him. On his face and neck are the only visual clues he allows to his identity as a beastman, mostly round and circular tattoos. If it didn’t similarly bother him, he would wear a facemask.

Loscan exclusively wears clothes that cover every inch of his body, apart from his hands and face, no matter what locale he’s in. He always takes care to wear a cloak’s hood in a bid to further cover himself up, but the added feeling of cloth on his ears bothers him greatly. At least one of his ears, notched as a Canary convict, always end up slipping out from underneath it. He doesn’t always care to fix it. His gloves run up the entirety of his arms, even underneath the sleeves of his turtleneck shirt, and cover his middle finger. Similarly to his gloves, his boots run up to his thighs, just below where his hands would rest if they were at his sides. Inside, are likely knives and the like. They have buckles on the sides that are easy to undo.

(Better refs to come)

Personality:
Figuratively speaking, Loscan is constantly on his toes. He pays far too much attention to the way people speak, sit, or express themselves. Knowing the people around you is one thing, but he compartmentalizes nearly every action around him, over analyzing until there’s only one conclusion he can come to. Loscan’s own hatred and disgust with himself ends up being projected onto others, and somehow, everyone thinks he’s disgusting. He believes everything they do is leading up to them dropping the hammer and telling that to his face. In fact, he seems happy whenever this does happen.

As a result of this overthinking, Loscan is decent at knowing what to say. Getting him to do that is an entirely different issue. In general, he acts prickly (in a weird, mopey, sad sort of way) so that people won’t want to get close to him. Overall, he’s a gloomy and unpleasant person to be around, but the majority of it is on purpose. He takes some joy in physical fights with monsters and humans. It’s one of the few times he feels he’s of much use or importance, but he doesn’t hold much self-preservation in these situations.

Skills:

Agility
Loscan is incredibly mobile. Whereas other rouges or thieves might rely on their stealth, he’s able to move so suddenly and quickly that an enemy wouldn’t have much time to react. That aside, he tends to fade into the background anyways. He tends to keep fights to one or two strikes, before waiting until the potent poison he coats his weapons with kicks in.

Beast form
Loscan has some properties of his beast when he’s not transformed. They are a potent poison on much of his skin, mostly his back and upper arms and legs. If it is touched or ingested, it can cause paralysis, convulsions, and in smaller foes, death. He takes care to cover himself up appropriately. On his hands and feet, he can stick to surfaces. He keeps his boots easy to take off, and his hands uncovered for this purpose. He probably has a really long tongue and could punch someone with it, but the jury’s out on that one.

While Loscan takes care to never have to use his beast transformation, abhorring what the transformation does to him and how it makes him looks, it augments him in the way a frog would. He can leap vertically or horizontally large distances, has a resistance to monsters like Tentacles, and becomes amphibious. The main drawback, apart from how it makes him feel, is that he absolutely needs to keep his skin wet.

Background:
Loscan was born into a small family of lowborn elves on the Southern Central Continent. He ended up not being very familiar with his father, who passed away while he was still very young, but he held the values of caring for his family. Loscan decided to take up that mantle and tried to care for his mother and older sister the best he could, cooking, cleaning, odd jobs, anything he could think of. However, with every circumstance against them, Loscan knew that the only thing that could truly save them would be money. Thus, he turned to the most profitable, dangerous trade he knew. Dark magic.

Dealing with artifacts, gathering supplies for spells, helping smuggle people and things that were less than above board, he took on every job he could to help provide. For a time, it worked, and he began to amass his earnings to escape with his family. But the underbelly of society came for him, knowing him to be far too desperate. Loscan ended up in debt. So much so, that the only choice he had without dragging his family down with him, was to take a deal. Become the subject for beastman magic, with an animal that had hardly been seen before. Then, fight as one of them or become a spectacle to earn money. With his back to the wall, Loscan accepted, not knowing what to expect.

The transformation was worse than anything he’d ever experienced before. When he saw himself for the first time, he was disgusted and horrified, so upset that, in a panic, he ran. Reduced to this state, he wanted nothing but comfort from his family. But his mother and sister had none for him, only seeing what he’d been turned into. With a frantic report from them, and an anonymous one from the people that had done this to him, it wasn’t long before he was caught by Elven enforcers.

One thing led to another in a blur, and he ended up in the hands of the Canaries. They saw a use for the particular set of skills he’d gained from his unwilling transformation. His ears were notched, and he was assigned to a guard. And he followed this new routine for years, only if the reason for doing so was some kind of self flagellation. He doesn’t quite remember how or why, but he’s ended up at this new dungeon.

This one will surely be like all the rest.

Huh it seems like there's been a lot of undercover Canary agents arriving to the Island lately... but I'm sure there won't be any in-character ramifications to that. :)
