Yehla Damasquine

Post by Yehla »

Name:
Yehla Damasquine

Race:
Beast-man (Previously Tall-man

Age:
44

Appearance:
180 cm (5'9"), medium dark skin, yellow eyes, black hair. The curse put upon her makes her look ageless. Tall for her race, she's slender but athletic with some lean muscles on her. The most striking features about her are obviously her curled horns, and the black line joining her upper lip to her nose, which is dark and textured like an animal's. The line on her chin is a tattoo to make her goat lip less noticeable. She does have floppy goat ears, but they're hidden under her horns. The freckles were from birth, but the curse seem to have rearranged them in a neat pattern. She mostly dresses in black leather. It is noted that her pupils take a rectangular shape when she uses magic.

Personality:
A cheerful but rather poised person, Yehla can be qualified by the "cool aunt/mom friend" type of person. A little aloof, a little funny, a little smug, but caring and level-headed. She doesn't talk about herself much, lest it'd raise question about her appearance and why she became a Beast-man, and it's a subject she's not keen on. Despite looking very self-assured, she's prone to spiraling into her own head and lose focus on her task, which can lead to put herself or people around her in danger. She wants to protect the people she cares about, but not above following the law and what moral dictates. All in all, she's altruistic at heart, more focused on people than herself. This might have to do with how being selfish in the past lead her to her downfall.

Skills:
Yehla uses a specific genre of spell, derived from Gnome Magic, where she combines medicinal and magical herbs and flowers together depending on the effect she wants to achieve, before smoking them in her pipe, alone or with people (whom she sometimes need them to take a drag from the pipe for full effect). Once the smoke is fully in her lungs, she cast the spell, usually by singing, but she can recite it quickly if needed in urgent situation. Singing just makes it more effective. The words come to her as they go, she doesn't have a book of spells to recite, only knows what combos of herbs to do in order to achieve her goal. Because of all of that, her magic is a slow one. She's not much a fighter, but she does know some martial art as a last resort. Her magic is usually used to help relax, enhance abilities, achieve specific mindsets, help sleep better, accelerate healing magic, etc.
She also specializes in erotic magic, but she doesn't advertise it that much, for obvious reasons.

Background:
Born in a small but prosperous city called Maibéliard on the North-East coast of the Southern Continent, Yehla was the only daughter of a rich merchant and a mother died in childbirth, and had everything a little girl could dream of, maybe a bit too much so. Spoiled to the core, Yehla only knew one way of asking for things: by demanding them. Her father, whom had ties to the inner political circle of the city, had the habit of giving everything she wanted to his daughter, while also taking anything he wanted for himself with some truly shady deals with the city's leader. Contraband, outrageous taxes, bribe... Oblivious to the inner working of rotten politics, as expected from a child, she still was reaping the benefits of her father being part of the problem.
This could have gone for much longer if one day when she was 12, while walking in the woods, she came across a lost baby goat. Elated to have a new pet to play with, she recoiled when the scared animal bit her. Anger flashing, she threw a rock at the goat, screaming insanities at the poor beast. Unfortunately for Yehla, the goat, now bleeding from its head, screamed in death so loud that it called its master to its side, a ragged looking shepherd. Right as the teenager was ready to spit more insults, the man cursed her out, revealing its status as a magic user, and bound the poor goat's soul to Yehla's, effectively changing her into a beast-woman. She grew ears, horns, and her nose and mouth took to the beast she just had slain in vain selfishness, and crying, she fled the forest.

Of course, no one in her city wanted to do anything with her now, marked with something that could only be dark magic, and she got exiled from her home. Alone and lost in a world she never was prepared for, she got through the rest of her younger years by surviving how she could, stealing and lying, sleeping in the street.

That miserable life stopped once she reached her 18th year, when she tried to rob a lonely house by the sea, more to the east from her birth place. The person living there was an older gnome mage, named Inglehes, who led her life by principle of love, sharing, and caring for the nature and people around her. She worked at the local mage, apothecary, healer and general help for the couple villages around. When she caught the young Beast-woman, she offered, instead of taking her to the authority, to stay and do some labour for her aging self. Yehla, preferring dirty nails in freedom than in jail, accepted the offer.
Here, Yehla started her path to redemption, learning about gnome magic, herbs and how to use them in potion, and Inglehes worked hard to nurture a more compassionate, caring nature to the young woman. Those are the best years of Yehla's life.

Tragically, this life was to be cut short one evening when Yehla came back from herb gathering to a ruined house and a mortally wounded Inglehes. Where Yehla failed as a robber four years ago, some highway men heard about the gnome lady who always took gold from her client without actually spending it. In her dying breath while Yehla held her, Inglehes begged her to live as the best version of herself and be kind, always.

In her last act of selfishness, Yehla tracked and killed the four men who took away her mentor, before leaving the southern continent and moving up north to the eastern continent, near Sadena. Here, the now 22 years old woman worked as an itinerary herbalist for a handful of years.

When she was 25, like many people, she heard about the new dungeon and the tale of the promised Kingdom on the island near Kahka Brud, and pulled by curiosity, she moved to the city and started offering her skills for adventurers.

After the events from 15 years ago, she is now retired, and moved farther up north. But the call of adventure is stronger than she thought, and she's itching to go back to dungeons exploration...

Typical Role in Dungeon Parties:
Healer/Apothecary/Comfort Aid/Spellcaster.

Five Key Words About Yehla:
  • Smoking pipe: At first glance a simple wooden pipe, she inherited it from Inglehes as her first Mana-pool tool. Nowadays, she doesn't really use it anymore for spell casting, preferring stronger pipe she handcrafted herself for stronger magic use, but whenever she wants to smoke for her own pleasure, it's the one she picks in remembrance of her mentor.
  • Ears: Yehla is very self conscious about her soft floppy goat ears. As luck has it, they're small enough they can be hidden behind her horns. any remark toward her ears will most likely send her in a self-destructive spiral.
  • Horn Jewelry: Yehla dyed the red part and pierced her horns herself. With what, and where does the gold adorning them comes from, no one know, and she doesn't share.
  • Belt: She stashes all of her herbs in a multi pocketed belt that never leaves her. She also has a couple ready-made potion dangling at her hips, making her easy to spot from a mile away because of the clinking noise if she's not being careful. She used to have a medicine box from the Eastern Archipel that she bought to a traveling merchant. She sometimes still uses it.
  • Singing: Inglehes is the one who taught Yehla to sing. It's now one of her favorite pastime, and she will gladly sing in parties or in tavern even with no magic, just for a good time. She can plays the luth too, but keep hers at her place and doesn't travel with it. She loves to dance as well, especially Folk Dancing, particularly popular among Half-Foot, which whom she learnt most of the dances she knows today while staying in a Half-Foot community for a while around when she was 24.

I really like how she uses herbs as part of her magic! The spirits probably like it a lot too.....
