Tythis of House Peiel

Name:
Tythis of House Peiel
Race:
Elf
Age:
98
Appearance:
150cm (4'11") tall, skinny, and likes to wear clothes that show off his form. Pale skin, red eyes, and strawberry blonde hair that he takes meticulous care of. He's very effeminate, a little past the point of standard elven androgyny and tipping into a clear aesthetic that frequently gets him misgendered (he seems to think it's funny). His ears are pierced, and usually fitted with small jewels or simple metal studs. Often sporting a sort of smug cat look.
He's a trans man, but while he doesn't really hide that fact, he doesn't tend to openly discuss it either. (Less an appearance thing but I could not figure out where else to slot it in for the moment.)
Personality:
Smug, manipulative, backhanded, and confident. Tythis is generally bad in social situations, but not because he doesn't want to be there; it's mostly because he's catty and off-putting and a lot of people don't have the energy to put up with him. He seems to always want to be the best, and if not that, then at least the center of attention—as long as it doesn't jeopardize his job. He's damn sure he's the best at what he does, which means he gives it his all to make sure it stays that way.
Skills:
Illusion and ice magic, as well as stealth and proficiency with daggers in combat. The object Tythis uses to channel his magic is, in fact, a dagger—he has no interest in staves or spellbooks, and this is easier to conceal anyway. He also, bizarrely, seems to have a real interest in necromancy, but of course he doesn't actually perform it. That would be illegal!
His primary role in any given dungeon party is "offensive spellcaster"; he can perform healing magic, but it's not something he specializes in. He's also ideal for stealth-based tasks and assaults, so long as they don't overly involve lockpicking or, gods forbid, trap disarming.
Background:
House Peiel is a small but distinctive family, many of its members over time joining the Dungeon Investigation Unit. Tythis's parents were both in it, and he, too, has long since joined up, being officially submitted for consideration shortly after he turned 80. His heritage is a point of pride for him; it's also, in many ways, his downfall.
He made enough of an impression during training to be appointed a very specific role: a scout, tasked with covertly checking in on dungeons before the full force of the DIU is sent in. Despite his attention-seeking nature, he's very good at remaining undercover as necessary, disdainfully talking about the Canaries with company and going unseen without. Frequently sent with a pair of convicts to make sure everything goes smoothly, Tythis nevertheless doesn't seem to fear being wiped with only three party members. He has faith in Vaako and Loscan, but that's not the only reason he's so confident--he's invaluable to the DIU, after all. They'd surely make sure he was retrieved if he didn't report back in the right amount of time.
He's not invaluable, though. He's not the only scout, nor is he of noble enough blood to be overly worried about. Tythis resents such an idea, but it's possible that, somewhere deep down, he suspects it could be true.
He's always fought to stand out. He doesn't want to be just a face in the crowd; he needs to have a name, a purpose. He wants to be special. He was an only child, but tension and betrayal between his parents during his adolescence caused him to often be sidelined, and as an adult he was one of dozens of new Canary recruits, a face in the crowd. He finds all too often that if he doesn't force himself to the forefront of people's awareness, they'll just tune him out. Thus, he gets meaner. More dangerous. He'll make people pay attention, whether they like it or not.
Typical Role in Dungeon Parties:
Spellcaster, Assassin
