A makeshift Resurrection Office has been set up on the Plaza floor
Forum rules
This forum can be used by Players to request NPC threads. Please see Guides & Important Information, Non-Player Characters for more information.

Environment Description: A place where corpses discovered in the dungeon are stored until they are revived. The room is actually an offshoot of the hallway between the Western Dungeon Entrance and the Plaza, but it was deemed suitable enough. Adventurers who enter from the west must pass through the Resurrection Office, and as such most adventurers tend to enter through the east due to this fact. The walls contain long shelves to store bodies in, most are empty, but some contain corpses. There is a wooden desk for adventurers to inquire about potential comrades and to drop bodies off at which is continuously staffed, even at night. The Head of the Resurrection office spends her time in this room more often than not, and if she is not at the front desk then she can usually be found asleep in one of the empty shelves.

As a note - Corpses discovered outside of the Dungeon are brought to the Corpse Retrieval building

[NPC REQ] And thank you!

Post by Az' »

Az' would have had a pep in his step, were it not for the extra weight he was carrying. Today had been a great day, up until the point his companion had gotten herself hurt. They had managed to find a few valuables and expore quite a bit of the first floor, which was about as much as a party composed of two unexperienced dungeon divers could hope for.
He had choosen her for her magic, hoping that between that and his fighting experience, they would have most of their bases covered. Surely there weren't that many traps so high up, right?
Wrong.
So here he was, entering the resurrection office with this dead girl thrown over his shoulder, an arrow sticking out of her back. It hadn't killed her on the spot, what with it missing the vital organs and all, but he was no healer and this is what the resurrection office was for, anyway.
Az' could hear his fairy, Heihei, buzzing anxiously around the girl's dangling head. He let out a chuckle at its antics, before approaching the lady behind the front desk.
"Hey there! I got a delivery for ya!"
Heihei was worried over nothing, the elf woman seemed nice, and she had the reputation of being chill.

"Hnnn? What's that?" Melhera said, jolting awake. She was grateful for whoever had saved her from accidentally falling asleep at the Resurrection Office desk. Embarrassing! She hoped the other person didn't notice her dozing off. She inhaled deeply, fighting back a yawn as she straightened her back and cracked her neck. The tall-man who had just walked in had a body slung over their shoulder and from just the looks of the dead person the corpse the body seemed relatively fresh. Melhera would want to work relatively quickly to avoid some of the more advanced stages of decomposition from occurring within the Resurrection Office... it was never a fun time.

"Ah! Hello," she said, ushering the tall-man to put the corpse down in the middle of the room. "This corpse looks rather fresh, where and when exactly did they expire? If you know, of course," She quickly backtracked to the front desk. She she turned towards the tall-man and blindly grasped around in the desk, and luckily the required paperwork was on the top of the drawer this time. She grabbed it as she hustled back over to the tall-man.

"Could you put them down on their side, please? From their injuries I can see... well I believe that would be for best, yes," She tucked a fist under her chin before waving her hand around again, seemingly enthusiastic for one reason or another. "And since you're here and the corpse seems rather fresh I'd like to tackle them right away." Melhera cupped her chin as she inspected the corpse on the tall-man's back. An arrow wound—Melhera doubted that she would need to wear gloves for this one, but who knew once she got a look at the other person's front with more detail.

"I have some paperwork for you to fill-out, if you wouldn't mind," The elf said, motioning to the paper on top of the desk. "There's some ink and quills there as well, I'm sure we have a few pencils somewhere too if you prefer." She paused. "And, ah, do you know if there were any rites that they would prefer to be honored...? I know some people are quite sensitive about these kinds of things and I'd prefer to respect their wishes if possible."

Az' could appreciate someone who seemingly enjoyed their work, especially one most people were rebutted by. Though she was all over the place, the lady was efficient, she clearly had a system. They decided she was amusing enough, and they had nowhere else to be anyway. A bit of company was always nice.
What Az' was less thrilled about, however, was the paperwork. Why was there always paperwork. With a huff, they set down the body as instructed, careful to maintain the head as they did so, before making they way over to the desk.
Fumbling around the desk for a pencil — Why people made writing even more difficult for themselves with fancy stuff will forever be a mystery —, they started talking.
"The poor girl, her name was Tedi or Temi or something like that, she walked right over one of these pressure plate from the first floor. She got an arrow and a twisted ankle for her trouble." Pencil located. "Her neck's broken, too."
Az' set to carefully filling out the form, pencil clumsy in their hand. "That was right after we stopped for lunch, can't have been more than 2 hours ago. As for the rites, I'm not sure. She does the whole magic thingy by praying and all, if that's any help." Their hand shook a bit. "I'll remember to ask next time, it seems important to you."
They took a step back, looking over the paper. It was legible enough. Probably. If you sounded it out.
Turning back towards the lady, Az' made their way back to the middle of the room with a smile.
"The name is Az', by the way! You can give me yours too, if you want me to stop calling you "beautiful lady" in my mind~." They winked before nodding towards the arrow. "Want me to pull it out?"

"Two hours? That's not long at all," The elf perked up a bit, rolling up her sleeve before craning up her arm and fumbling around on one of the top shelves for a pair of leather gloves—she was certain she left some up there. "You don't have to stick around for the revival, but people brought back from the dead often appreciate seeing a friendly face." She shrugged. "Up to you."

She quickly scanned over the paperwork. "I appreciate you filling this out! I'll put a little question mark near this person's name if that's alright with you to signal the uncertainty around it." The elf grasped the paperwork and a pencil, doing so before pulling the gloves onto her with a snap. Melhera let out a small sigh, although the sigh was not directed at at Az'. "If it were up to me I wouldn't have any paperwork for you to fill out, but it's a request from the Registration Office." She rolled her eyes. "I have no idea what they do with it to be honest, but as a courtesy I try to play nice by their rules."

"Oh, don't worry if you don't know any of the religious backgrounds of this person," The elf waved a now gloved hand in front of her face. "Sometimes one must revive despite knowing. But knowing they do magic by praying does help a bit, I appreciate you telling me. I just try to be respectful when possible." At the tall-man's compliment on Melhera's own appearance she let out a hearty laugh.

"My name is Melhera! I'm probably old enough to be your grandmother, potentially twice over, so please, no need for flattery!" Melhera said. She bristled when she realized she revealed such such personal information, a knee-jerk reaction that wouldn't be detectable by most unless they were keen at analyzing people. It was a small bit of information, but information she preferred to keep to herself nonetheless. She quickly composed herself before grasping the paperwork from the tall-man. "It's nice to meet you, Az'! And no need to pull out the arrow, I know that sounds out," Melhera said before laughing again. "But I'm happy to do so, there is a method to my madness, I swear." She said before winking at the tall-man.

"Well, I'm ready to get started if you are," Melhera said and smiled. "I'm happy to let you shuffle out of here before I do so if you prefer. While there is a method to my madness, ah, well, sometimes it can get a bit... err... thrashy from the corpse mid resurrection, especially at this particular point in their stage of death..."

Az' shrugged. "I'll stay, but I gotta warn you, I don't think she will be very happy to see me at all." They hoped she didn't hold grudges, but wasn't feeling too optimistic about it. At least they were already in the resurrection office, if it came to that.

Watching the elf lady putter around, they sighed over dramatically. "They seem quite fond of their paperwork. Back when I went to get this little sweetheart —They gestured to the fairy buzzing around— they kept me there for 3 hours. All of it useless if you ask me."

Perking up at her laugh, Az' repeated the name to themself. "Melhera... That's a pretty name, fits you well." They eyed her up and down, a playful glint in their gaze. They lingered on her face, but didn't seem to notice anything amiss. "I wouldn't have guessed, you age like fine wine! But if you insist, I'll keep my observations to myself."

Taking a step back to leave her some space to work, they hooked a hand of their hip. "Well, Mel, I'd be delighted to witness your meticulous madness then! I don't get queasy quite so easily."

Melhera's eyebrows raised a bit at the mention that the person she was reviving wouldn't be happy to see Az'. Well, if Az' was still willing to stay and observe it couldn't have been bad enough to be a crime at the very least. Or the tall-man was quite ignorant to how someone newly revived would respond to a crime. Either way it wasn't the elf's business.

"They kept you at the Registration Office for three hours?" Melhera said and tsked. "That should be criminal! That's much too long to keep a new arrival there. It's a rather dreary building..." Melhera let out a sigh. "I can't imagine why it took them so long... ah well, it is what it is... sadly I have no control over that." Melhera let out another chuckle and waved her hand at Az' at his compliment. "Ahoho, what a delight you are! Your kind words will fuel me for the week!"

She looked down at the body before her and made some final mental notes. The elf cracked her knuckles and her back, ready to get started. She knelt down on the victim's side—as close to the arrow wound as she could get—one of her knees cracking a bit as she did so. As long as the spirits weren't in a vengeful mood this shouldn't take too long...

"Ah, er," Melhera said, looking up at Az'. She gave him a weak smile. "If you are staying, would you mind holding down this person's legs? I meant what I said when I mentioned people tend to get thrashy during their resurrections when it's been about this long since they've died..."
